MidNight Angels--Rayven's Story part 1

Midnight Angels—Rayven’s Story

It was a cold, rainy night when she began to make her rounds around the city. She paused and looked around and realized that the weather had matched her mood of late. She continued on her way to meet up with a couple of more Midnight Angels. Rayven had never been on time for anytime except for their normal hunts. Even then she still wasn't sure if she belonged with the Angels. But those issues she kept to herself. But it was her magnified hearing that brought her a situation to her attention.

She stopped and was about to engage in the fight when a body came hurdling towards her as she side-stepped the body only to have another body coming at her. She barely had anytime to get her wings into shield formation in order to keep her from absorbing the full impact. Those of her kind could do amazing things with their abilities and their wings. There was only one problem with that and that was exposing their wings to mortals. She had two choices to make right now, either she could escort the mortal to her home or she could destroy him.

But there was something different about this mortal? The stranger was still fighting and dropping bodies left and right. Rayven was about to take to flight only to be stopped in her tracks. She couldn't even move her wings back into place. She was feeling something unnatural blocking her every movement. Hell, she couldn't even send out her call to arms. The stranger noticed that she was in need of rescuing only to be stopped himself.

Before she was captured he had sent out a distress call to his kind. His clan was there in a matter of moments. They got the stranger freed; when he ordered them to get her free. They were unable to rescue the angel. Rayven's body had sped her molecules up when the energy field shattered. The handsome stranger was right next to her when she fell. Once he had a good hold on her, he and his clan vanished. After the clan was safe, they dispersed the only one to remain was the stranger. He cradled the angel close to his chest.

It would take hours for Rayven's body to come back to normal because of the state of flux that it was in. As the hours passed, the stranger became worried about this beautiful and perfect angel. He had heard stories all of his life about a race of warrior angels and how they protected the dimensions and the gates. He was also told of the ways to tell if these warriors were the ones. But he couldn't use those methods that his people had employed for centuries.

They were methods of torture; even those who felt like him had perished at the hands of his own people. Suddenly he was summoned to the meeting hall of his people; when a wave of uneasiness came over him causing him to pause. He didn't know how important that this strange woman would become to him, so he knew what he had to do to insure her safety.

The stranger waved his hand to camouflage his angel and then he left to find
out what was going on. Once he arrived at the meeting hall, he noticed his
warriors lined up and on their knees in front of their leader and the
Tribunal. Once he stood in front he was forced to his knees by the captain of
the guards. Then the leader spoke in a booming voice, "Lucien, you are a good
warrior. I have been told that you found an angel and that she's here in our
village. You know our tradition. I want to know where this creature is."
"Great lord, it is true that I did find an angel. But she was captured.
When my clan and I freed her she died," his clan members knew that he was lying
but no one was going to break their code of honor. That was all he was going to
say. So his clan members had him pulled a portion of their magick together and
focused on her in order to send e to their clan home until they all could
return.
That was when their leader had his guards push Lucien and his clan members
forward in order to punish them for violating their laws. As Lucien and his clan
members braced themselves for the coming punishment a bright light enveloped the
entire meeting hall. As the light began to fade, there stood Rayven in her true
form with her battle armor on.
The leader wasn't surprised to see a Midnight Angel but had never seen one
in her true form. Rayven had removed her helmet visor. The guards were about to
strike with their whips of orts when she struck them down. She released Lucien
and his clan from their bonds and spoke, "You have no need to punish these good
men for rescuing me. You have implored methods that are intolerable for
centuries. You have also used these methods on your own people. You were even
given a chance to redeem yourself and your honor. But the time has come for your
demise and those of your clan."
Rayven had lowered her visor, released her wings, lifted her sword and was
about to destroy the leader when Lucien stepped in between her and his leader.
He gently spoke to the warrior angel, "He holds true to our traditions even if the
traditions are wrong. I also know that you’re kind shows compassion to those who
deserve it, as well as, dealing out punishment to those who do not deserve it. I
hope you will see to giving this man the compassion that he deserves."
She spoke in a flat voice, "I will this one time since you showed me
compassion," she turned her attention to the clan leader, "Remember, I will
return to punish you if you don't change the ways of your people."
Rayven disappeared in a bright light. By then Lucien and his clan vanished.
When they appeared it was at their native homeland. They all dispersed and
headed toward their lodges while Lucien went in search of his angel. As he
entered his lodge, he found her standing there with her wings out testing them
to make sure that they were still in operating order. She didn't even realize
that he was there watching her take in inventory of her assets and weapons. He
waited until she was done before he made his presence known to his heavenly
guest.
"I see that you’re well and healthy," Lucien spoke in a compassionate manner.
"Thank you." Was all she said as she walked away and returned t her place
by the side of the Midnight Angels.
The other angels didn't even notice her not there until she arrived. There
was only one angel who did notice her missing and her late arrival and that was
Anya, the captain of the Midnight Angels. Anya had noticed Rayven's withdrawing
from all the activities and the interactions of the other angels. So Anya
excused herself from the others and went to speak to Rayven privately.

“Rayven, we need to speak about some issues,” Anya stated calmly and with respect.

“Yes, captain.” Rayven responded in the same manner.

“Is everything all right with you, ‘Ven?”
